This is a Devon&Devon project. Design Avenue did not work on it — we publish it because we represent Devon&Devon in Georgia.
The apartment
Palais S. is a family residence in the heart of Vienna: 400 m² on two levels, in a building from the late nineteenth century. It was renovated by Atelier Karasinski, the studio of Laura Karasinski.
Wherever possible, the original elements were kept: the wooden floors, the stucco on the walls, and the inlaid wood of the ceilings, panelling and doors.
The best-known room is the Green Room, now the owners' reading room. Its green paint lies over a layer of pure silver, so the walls shimmer in the light. Velvet drapes separate it from the bedroom.
Rooms made new
The kitchen, the rosewood walk-in wardrobe and the master bathroom were designed from scratch, from historical photographs. Ingo Maurer's candle-style lights hang above the kitchen's quartz worktops.
Devon&Devon in the bathroom
The bathroom is calmer than the rest of the house, and classical in feel. On a white and grey marble floor, framed by drapery like a theatre curtain, stands the Celine bathtub, flanked by two Blues pedestal washbasins with a 1930s silhouette.
